About the Workshop Series

Scientific research plays an important role in our efforts in combating the disease conditions as well as maintaining the health of the population. However, research has never been a priority area of activity among academicians in the field of health. Recently there is a changing trend; postgraduate students are taking up their theses more seriously and more and more faculty members joining the Ph.D. programs or taking up research projects in their own areas of interest. But inadequacies in research capacities in quantitative and qualitative approaches were felt as a major impediment in this move forward.

Recognizing the importance of research in academic settings and the need to improve the capacity of researchers, the Centre for Advanced Research Information Network and Guidance proposes to conduct a “Capacity Building workshop Series” in Research Methodology for faculty members, Ph.D. scholars and Post Graduate students belonging to various systems and streams of medicine

aim

Aim

To improve the practical skills of participants on methods of approaching a research problem in a systematic manner; thus enhancing their capabilities in doing research projects, addressing critical regional and local health problems, using quantitative and qualitative methods.

Objectives of the Workshop

  1. To enhance the skill of participants in defining a research problem, formulating research questions, selecting appropriate research designs sample size, and sampling techniques.
  2. To build the capacity of the participants in developing reliable and valid tools for data collection.
  3. To enable them to develop methodologically sound protocols/proposals on research topics of their interest.
  4. To enhance the capabilities of participants in analyzing and interpreting the data with hands-on training in SPSS.
  5. To provide a comprehensive overview of the qualitative research framework, designing a qualitative study and familiarize data collection techniques frequently used in health research
  6. To provide hands ¬on training in qualitative data analysis and familiarize the NVIVO software in the qualitative data processing
  7. To sensitize the general guidelines for critically appraising published reports on research work using quantitative and qualitative research methods and publishing research findings in scientific journals.
